SurfHog is an independent Cornwall-based surf, weather and marine-data site created by software developer and surfer Dave Barnwell. Online since 2003, it publishes current conditions and a quality-checked observation archive for wave stations around the UK and Atlantic Europe.
Verified findings from the 2025 almanac
These figures use hourly-normalized records and the completeness rules published with the report. Link to the report when quoting them so readers can inspect the station table and limitations.
Regional seasonal pattern
In Southwest England, December had the highest regional monthly mean at 1.55 m. May was lowest at 0.59 m. The almanac keeps every region separate.
Largest accepted wave
A significant wave height of 11.5 m was recorded at Cormorant AWS in October, within a sustained high-wave sequence.
Sea temperatures
Eligible station monthly means ranged from 4.8 °C at Chapel Point to 20.2 °C at Weston Bay.
Quality control
SurfHog checked 2,096,085 values at wave-eligible stations and excluded 0.09% from summary calculations.
