About Minehead wave buoy

Minehead is a National Network Datawell Directional WaveRider in the Bristol Channel off Somerset. First deployed in December 2006, it represents the relatively sheltered Minehead frontage, where the long fetch of the channel and strong tidal regime shape a different wave climate from the open Atlantic coast.

Its current data source reports wave height, wave period, wave direction, directional spread and sea temperature.

Period Summary

Programmatically generated summary. Hog Says

48 wave-buoy observations were recorded during the day. Typical wave height was 1.7 ft (10th–90th percentile 1.4–2.7 ft), while mean peak wave period was 6.4 seconds (10th–90th percentile 4.6–8.2 seconds). Typical provider-reported wave power was 0.7 kW/m (10th–90th percentile 0.4–1.8 kW/m). Mean water temperature was 18.7°C (10th–90th percentile 18.6–18.8°C).
