About Weymouth wave buoy

Weymouth is a National Network Datawell Directional WaveRider in about 10.6 metres of water off Dorset. First deployed on 18 December 2006, it records the relatively sheltered wave climate of Weymouth Bay and the approaches east of Portland; a separate station on Portland supplies local weather context.

Its current data source reports wave height, wave period, wave direction, directional spread and sea temperature.

Period Summary

Programmatically generated summary. Hog Says

48 wave-buoy observations were recorded during the day. Typical wave height was 1.1 ft (10th–90th percentile 0.6–1.8 ft), while mean peak wave period was 9.8 seconds (10th–90th percentile 8.6–10.8 seconds). Mean water temperature was 10.5°C (10th–90th percentile 10.4–10.7°C). All 192 checked values passed quality control.
