Polzeath is a wide sandy bay near the mouth of the Camel estuary. Its easy beach access, surf schools and facilities make it one of Cornwall's busiest learning beaches.

How the beach surfs

The bay is exposed enough to pick up regular swell but has more shape and shelter than some fully open stretches of coast. Peaks spread across the sand at lower water, while the available space contracts sharply as the tide rises.

Access and orientation

Road access reaches the beachfront, with shops and equipment hire nearby. Crowding is part of the calculation here, especially when high water concentrates everyone into a smaller area.
