Mount's Bay, Cornwall

Perranuthnoe is a cliff-backed sand and shingle beach east of Marazion. It is quieter than the main resort beaches, but almost all of the beach disappears at high water.

How the beach surfs

This sheltered beach break needs swell from the south through west, with south-west swell offering the best chance of useful waves. At lower and middle stages of the tide it can produce mellow lefts and rights over sand. It is an occasional option rather than a reliable substitute for Praa Sands or the north coast.

Access and orientation

A small car park sits above the beach, with steps or a slipway leading down. Check the tide before carrying equipment to the sand and identify a safe exit, because the sea covers the beach at high water and leaves a rocky margin.
