Watergate Bay is a long, open beach north of Newquay with room to spread out at lower water and a cluster of surf and food businesses near the main access.

How the beach surfs

Its exposed position catches a wide range of Atlantic swell. Banks can produce several peaks along the beach, but wind and swell have little trouble reaching the bay. A mellow-looking day can become powerful when the period or size rises.

Access and orientation

The main access and facilities sit near the centre of the bay. The beach becomes much longer at lower water, so allow for the walk back and keep track of the tide against the cliffs.
